March is here and that means you could be experiencing a mix of weather, from snow and ice to spring-like sunshine (and that could all be in the same week!). We have you covered in this issue, with tips on getting a jump start on your spring cleaning, some tips on finding the time to exercise (you want to look good in those tank tops and shorts soon!), as well as a chili recipe to keep you warm on those cold and windy winter nights.

Directions:
Walls, countertops, floors and woodwork: Add 1 capful (1/2 fl. oz. /15 ml) to 1 gallon/3.8 liters of water.
Dirty hands: Work a few drops into hands, clean gently and rinse with water.
Jewelry: 2 drops in 8 fl.oz./236 ml of water, soak 15 minutes and rinse well.
Bathing pet: ¼ fl. oz. /7.5 ml per gallon/3.8 liters of water for a clean, fresh-smelling pet.
Spot and stain remover: Apply several drops directly to the soiled area. Rub and rinse with water.
Car wash: 1 fl. oz. /30 ml per 3 gallons/11.4 liters of water.
Laundry prewash: Add 1 capful (1/2 fl.oz./15 ml) to 8 oz. /236 ml water in sprayer. Spray directly on stain.

Spring Cleaning Jump Start

It won’t be long and spring will be here! Get a jump start on your spring cleaning with these quick tips:

Go through everything in the house! If you haven’t used an item in 6 months, donate it or throw it away. As you go through your items, keep two boxes or trash bags handy. Use one to keep track of the items you plan to donate, and one for the items you will throw away.
Create designated areas in your home to hold your mail, store the kids’ backpacks, the family’s shoes, etc.
Invest in some dual purpose furniture that functions as a storage space, for example an end table that has a removable lid or a good looking bookcase.
Get rid of clutter in the kitchen by getting unused items off the counter. If your counter is filled with appliances you barely use (such as blenders, food processors, mixers, etc) store them in a cupboard. A visually appealing space will help you feel calm and centered.

Finding Time To Exercise

Did you realize how many benefits exercising has? It can make you feel better about yourself, give you more energy, and help relieve stress.

Finding the time to exercise isn’t always easy, especially with how busy we all are between work and family. Here are some tips to help you find the time:

Schedule it in: Pencil in some exercising time, just as you would any appointment. If it’s on your schedule, you are more likely to follow through on your exercise plans.
Get a buddy: Ask a friend to meet you for workouts. It’s a lot harder to skip your workouts when you know that there will be someone at the gym waiting for you.
Join a 24 hour gym: If your schedule is irregular and you find that gyms are closed during the free time you have to work out, find a gym that is open 24 hours a day. Many chains that offer this service are popping up all over the country.
Invest in some fitness DVDs or subscribe to a streaming exercise channel like DailyBurn and you won’t have to worry about making it out to the gym. Whenever you want to work out, you can simply pop in a DVD or stream exercise videos on your phone, tablet or TV .

Slow Cooker Turkey Chili

Yield: Serves 8-10

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 4-6 hours

This slow cooker recipe is easy to make and feeds a crowd! Plus, it’s healthy too!
Ingredients:

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 lb 99% lean ground turkey
1 medium onion, diced
1 red pepper, chopped
1 yellow pepper, chopped
2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce
2 (15 oz) cans petite diced tomatoes
2 (15 oz) cans black beans, rinsed and drained
2 (15oz) cans red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 (16 oz) jar deli-sliced tamed jalapeno peppers, drained
1 cup frozen corn
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon cumin
Salt and black pepper, to taste

Optional toppings: green onions, shredded cheese, avocado, sour cream/Greek yogurt
Directions:

1. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place turkey in the skillet, and cook until brown. Pour turkey into slow cooker.
2. Add the onion, peppers, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, beans, jalapeños, corn, chili powder, and cumin. Stir and season with salt and pepper.
3. Cover and cook on High for 4 hours or low for 6 hours. Serve with toppings, if desired.

Note-we use a 6 quart slow cooker.
